Gold Board Warns Unlicensed Jewellery Firms of Sanctions

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a stern compliance notice warning jewellery manufacturers, fabricators, and gold refineries operating without valid licences to regularize their activities or face sanctions under Act 1140.

In a statement dated January 28, 2026, GoldBod reminded the public that only duly licensed entities are permitted to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication, and refining in Ghana. The Board emphasized that operating without a licence constitutes a criminal offence.

The directive follows an earlier press release issued on October 22, 2025, which gave existing operators until December 31, 2025, to comply. Enforcement checks by GoldBod inspectors are scheduled to begin on February 2, 2026.

GoldBod also congratulated Sourcechain Enterprise and Shepaj Limited Company for successfully obtaining their jewellery and fabrication licences.

In a related update, the Compliance Directorate listed several companies under review, including Koshuuz Enterprise, M.J. Jewellery Limited Company, Mahmoud’s Jewellery Limited, Agyaba Jewellery, Gold Casting, Goldlovers Gh Limited, Wappahs Jewellery, Mahalaxmi Ghana Limited, and Sahara Jewellery Limited Company.

“GoldBod remains committed to enforcing the laws and regulations that govern the gold trading sector in the spirit of accountability and transparency,” the statement concluded.
