Ghana’s AFCON Qualification Hopes Unshaken – Otto Addo

Despite a surprising 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Ghana’s Black Stars coach Otto Addo remains confident that the team’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is still within their control.

Speaking at a press conference after the match, Addo emphasized that Ghana’s chances of advancing to the tournament in Morocco next year remain in their hands.

The loss marked the end of Ghana’s 24-year unbeaten streak at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Currently, Ghana ranks third in Group F with zero points, behind Angola and Sudan, who have both secured 1-0 victories over Ghana and Niger, respectively. However, Addo remains optimistic about the team’s prospects for qualification.

“The second half (performance) makes me very confident. The good thing is it’s all still in our own hands. We will play against all the other teams in the group and it’s all in our hands. We don’t depend on nobody to qualify at the moment and this is the good thing. This is a positive thing.”

Ghana takes on Niger next on Monday, September 9 in Morocco at 15:00 GMT.
