Ghana Announces New Visa Waiver Agreements

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced the ratification of visa waiver arrangements between Ghana and three partner countries — the Republic of Maldives, the Republic of Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda.

Under the agreements, holders of Ordinary, Service, and Diplomatic Passports may now travel visa-free to these destinations for specified durations.

Details of the Visa Waiver

Country Passport Types Covered Maximum Stay
Maldives Ordinary, Service, Diplomatic 30 days
Zambia Ordinary, Service, Diplomatic 30 days
Antigua and Barbuda Ordinary, Service, Diplomatic 90 days

Conditions for Travelers

The Ministry emphasized that visa-free entry does not exempt travelers from meeting immigration and entry requirements of the destination country. Ghanaian passport holders must:

  • Travel with valid passports and required documents.
  • Use visa-free entry strictly for tourism, business, or official purposes — not for employment.
  • Confirm entry requirements with the relevant Embassy or High Commission before traveling.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Ministry noted that the agreements reflect Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding opportunities for citizens to engage globally.
