Ghana and Zimbabwe Hold Inaugural PJCC Ministerial Session

Ghana and Zimbabwe have taken a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations with the convening of the inaugural Ministerial Session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) in Accra. The session, co-chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries, aims to establish a structured framework to guide relations that date back to Zimbabwe’s independence.

Delivering his remarks, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), described the PJCC as a turning point in the relationship between the two nations, shifting engagement from historic goodwill to a focused and results-oriented collaboration. He emphasized the importance of prioritising trade and investment, strengthening private sector cooperation, and improving market access by leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Hon. Ablakwa further highlighted opportunities in agriculture, mining, education, and skills development, stressing the need to translate these prospects into concrete programmes that drive job creation, economic growth, and shared prosperity.

Zimbabwe’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Professor Amon Murwira, echoed his counterpart’s sentiments, reaffirming Zimbabwe’s commitment to enhancing relations for mutual benefit. He emphasized that diplomacy must deliver tangible outcomes that improve livelihoods and propel development.

The outcomes of the deliberations will be presented to the Heads of State of Ghana and Zimbabwe during President Murwira’s State Visit to Ghana from April 1–3, 2026. The visit is expected to culminate in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding in key areas of mutual interest, further strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
