Former Pres. Nana Addo Mourns Victims of Tragic Military Helicopter Crash in Ashanti Region

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed profound grief following the tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of several prominent Ghanaian leaders and military personnel.

The devastating incident took the lives of Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment and Science; Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC); Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The tragic news was confirmed this afternoon by Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff at the Office of the President.

In an official statement, former President Nana Addo extended his deepest condolences to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the NDC. He also expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and saluted the Ghana Air Force for their indispensable service to the nation.

“I have spoken to and conveyed my heartfelt sympathies to the President of the Republic and the leadership of the NDC during this time of national mourning. We honour the gallant men of the Ghana Air Force and stand in solidarity with the families who have lost loved ones,” the statement said.

The nation continues to grieve this profound loss and prays that the departed may rest peacefully in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Day of Resurrection.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the crash, and further updates will be provided in due course.
