Foreign Ministry Dispatches Fact-Finding Mission, Pledges Independent Review in Nana Agyei’s Death

Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa today met with the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he conveyed his deepest condolences and outlined steps taken by government in response to the tragic loss.

During the meeting, the Minister briefed the family on interventions already carried out by the Ministry. These include the dispatch of a fact-finding mission from Ghana’s embassy in Germany, which also holds concurrent accreditation to Latvia. The mission has since submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry.

Mr. Ablakwa further informed the family that Latvian authorities have confirmed investigations into the circumstances surrounding Nana Agyei’s death remain ongoing. He disclosed that he has formally notified the Latvian government of his intention to travel to Riga to hold talks with his counterpart and engage directly with investigators.

The Minister added that his imminent delegation to Latvia will include representatives of the bereaved family. He also assured them that the Government of Ghana will engage independent experts to analyze all investigative reports, particularly the final report expected from Latvian authorities, to guide the country’s next steps in pursuit of justice.
