Education Minister-Designate Haruna Iddrisu and  NDC’s Promises to Improve Muslim Education

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, former minority leader and ranking Member for the Appointments Committee,  faces the vetting committee this morning as the Minister-designate for Education.

As the Ranking Member for the Appointments Committee, Haruna Iddrisu had earlier explained that the Minister-designate for Health and the Minister-designate for National Security would be the first to face the vetting committee due to the priority nature of their roles, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, it’s his turn to face the committee. The vetting process is expected to be thorough, with the committee scrutinizing his background, qualifications, and suitability for the role of Minister of Education.

NDC’s Promises to Improve Education for Muslims

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing education for Muslims in Ghana. These promises include:

– Expanding Educational Infrastructure: Launching a program to expand facilities in Zongo communities, providing a conducive learning environment for students.
– Strengthening Islamic Education: Enhancing the Islamic Education Unit under the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure effective monitoring and recruitment of more Arabic teachers.
– Upgrading Al-Faruq College of Education: Improving the infrastructure of the Al-Faruq College of Education to provide quality education.
– Accrediting Islamic Schools: Supporting the accreditation of Islamic schools, such as the Institute of Islamic Research, to enhance the training of Arabic teachers.
– Scholarships for Muslim Students: Providing scholarships for Muslim students, especially in fields like Law, Medicine, Engineering, and ICT.
– Establishing Islamic Tertiary Institutions: Fostering partnerships to establish Islamic tertiary institutions, expanding opportunities for Muslim students.

These initiatives demonstrate the NDC’s commitment to improving education for Muslims in Ghana, addressing the unique challenges they face, and promoting inclusive development.
