Dumelo Criticized for Accusing NPP's Lydia Alhassan of Husband's Death.

Social media users have criticized John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, for his remarks about Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the NPP MP for the same constituency, during a TV3 community manifesto event on August 28,2024.

When NPP supporters chanted “V8” – a reference to a 2017 scandal involving Dumelo and a state-owned vehicle – Dumelo responded by accusing Alhassan of being responsible for her husband’s death to gain her seat.

“I want to say something, I can see their supporters mentioning V8, V8, V8. If that is the case, it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one that killed her husband to become MP. Because if they want to go that tangent, I can also go that same tangent because this time around, its booth for booth.

This comment has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many users expressing outrage and disappointment at Dumelo’s statement

“You cannot decide to be a bloody widow to be Member of Parliament,” Dumelo said angrily.

John Dumelo’s comment has been met with backlashes from social media users who believe his comment is below the belt and unexpected of a leader.
