Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially entered the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential candidacy by submitting his nomination forms.
The scene at the NPP’s national office in Accra was transformed into a festive celebration, as throngs of passionate supporters gathered in anticipation of Dr. Bawumia’s arrival.
Dressed in the party’s signature white and blue colors, the crowd sported customized shirts, waved party flags, and moved to the rhythm of a vibrant brass band, creating an atmosphere charged with energy and enthusiasm.
The occasion evolved into more than just a procedural step—it became a powerful display of political momentum and grassroots mobilization.
To many attendees, the event marked a pivotal chapter in the journey to select the NPP’s standard bearer for the 2028 national elections.
The nomination window for the flagbearer contest opened on July 29, 2025, and concluded today, August 28. The party plans to unveil the full roster of eligible candidates on October 8, ahead of the ballot draw and the eagerly awaited internal election scheduled for January 31, 2026, which will determine who leads the NPP into the next general election.
