Damage Spotted on Akufo-Addo’s statue in Sekondi-Takoradi

Residents of Takoradi had previously threatened to bring down President Nana Akufo-Addo’s statue situated in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region.

On the morning of Monday, December 16, 2024, a portion of the statue has been found damaged with a noticeable hole at the back of one of the legs. It is unclear weather the damage was intentional or due to a structural defect.

“I am very surprised. This was done so the president could be remembered. I am surprised one of its legs is broken but I haven’t seen anyone say he or she intends to destroy it,” Doris Arhin, a resident stated.

“I am of the opinion that the statue was done in a rush amounting to its defects because they were supposed to use two months but they used two weeks. I think the authorities had a good reason for making this statue,” another resident, Esther Anosi said.President Nana- Addo unveiled a statue at the entrance of the Effia- Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi during his tour of the ahead of the general elections.

The statue was erected to honour various key projects initiated under Akuffo-Addo’s administration in the region, such as the rehabilitation of the hospital, the construction of the 3-tier Sinohydro  interchange, and the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment, according to the Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah.
