The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 by an Accra Circuit Court. The bail comes with one surety, without justification.
His lead counsel, Daniel Mantey Addo, confirmed the decision on Monday, noting that Abronye’s health had deteriorated during his time in custody and that the ruling had brought him some relief. The legal team is working to meet the bail conditions to secure his immediate release.
Abronye DC was arrested on September 8, 2025, and charged with offensive conduct conducive to a breach of public peace. According to police, the arrest followed public comments in which he allegedly made inflammatory allegations against the Inspector General of Police and the governing party.
In the days leading up to his arrest, Abronye had submitted applications for political asylum to eight countries — Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, and Germany — citing what he described as persistent political persecution, threats to his life, and the misuse of state security powers under the current administration.
The case has drawn political attention, with supporters and critics closely watching the legal proceedings ahead of his next court appearance.
