COCOBOD Disburses GHC237 Million to Cocoa Farmers

The Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Jerome Kwaku Sam, has disclosed that GHC237 million has been released to cocoa farmers for 50,000 metric tonnes of cocoa.

This announcement comes at a time when Ghana’s cocoa industry is facing challenges, with farmers voicing concerns over months of delayed payments.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, February 18, Mr. Sam stated, “I’m happy to report COCOBOD has started payment of the 50,000 metric tonnes. An amount of GHC237 million has been paid.”

Recently, government introduced new measures, including a downward adjustment of the producer price for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season. The revised price now stands at GH¢41,392 per tonne (GH¢2,587 per bag).

Officials explained that the price change is aimed at cushioning farmers against declining global cocoa prices.

Meanwhile, COCOBOD has announced that it expects to save about GH¢5 million monthly following pay cuts for its executive management and senior staff. The reductions — 20% for executives and 10% for senior staff — took immediate effect and will continue throughout the 2025/2026 crop year.

The decision, communicated in a press release dated Monday, February 16, 2026, forms part of broader efforts to tackle liquidity constraints within the cocoa sector.
