Police have arrested a 24-year-old caregiver, Ayisha Zakaria, for allegedly burning a seven-year-old girl with a heated metal spoon as punishment for bedwetting.
The victim, identified as Amina, sustained severe burns on her private parts and inner thighs following the incident at Mamobi.
The arrest, which took place Wednesday, October 29, 2025, comes after widespread public outrage and condemnation following Baina TV’s airing of the plight of the little girl.
Police say the caregiver is still in custody as investigators demand two sureties before granting her bail. They added that if the conditions are not met, she will remain in custody until Monday, November 3, 2025, when she will be processed for court.
Investigations are ongoing, while calls continue to mount for justice to be served.
Community leaders and activists have urged authorities not to allow the matter to be settled privately, stressing that child abuse cases must be pursued to their full legal conclusion.
