Residents of Cape Coast and surrounding communities in the Central Region are expected to experience a planned power outage on Thursday, 8th January, 2026, as engineers from the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) undertake a major upgrade at the Cape Coast Substation.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in a statement issued on Tuesday, announced that the outage will last from 6:00am to 10:00pm to allow for the replacement of the existing 33MVA transformer with a new 66MVA unit.
According to the Ministry, the upgrade is part of government’s broader agenda to strengthen and expand the national power transmission infrastructure. The new transformer is expected to significantly improve the substation’s capacity, enhance reliability, and ensure stable power supply to households and businesses in Cape Coast and its environs.
GRIDCo engineers, working under the supervision of the Ministry, have assured that all necessary measures are in place to complete the work efficiently and restore power within the scheduled timeframe.
The Ministry and GRIDCo have apologised for any inconvenience the outage may cause and reaffirmed their commitment to national development through improved power delivery.
