CAF Slaps Senegal and Morocco with Historic Sanctions After AFCON 2025 Final

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed unprecedented sanctions on both Senegal and Morocco following chaotic scenes during the AFCON 2025 final, marking one of the most severe disciplinary rulings in the tournament’s history.

Senegal Hit with Record Fine

Senegal, crowned AFCON 2025 champions, faces a staggering $615,000 fine. The penalties include:

  • $300,000 for supporters’ misconduct
  • $300,000 for players and officials’ misconduct
  • $15,000 for accumulating five yellow cards in the final

Head coach Pape Thiaw has been banned for five CAF matches and fined $100,000 for bringing the game into disrepute. Star players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr have each been suspended for two CAF matches after being found guilty of unsporting conduct toward the referee.

Morocco Also Sanctioned

Morocco was fined a total of $315,000, broken down as:

  • $200,000 for misconduct by stadium ball boys
  • $100,000 for players and officials’ behaviour
  • $15,000 for supporters’ use of laser pointers

Trophy Decision Stands

CAF also dismissed Morocco’s appeal seeking to strip Senegal of the title, after claims that the champions abandoned the match. The disciplinary committee ruled that Senegal’s victory remains valid, confirming them as the official AFCON 2025 winners.
