President-elect John Dramani Mahama has nominated Alban S.K. Bagbin, the current Speaker of Parliament, to continue in his role in the 9th Parliament.
This decision was made in consultation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary leadership.
The 9th Parliament is set to begin on January 7, 2025, and will run until January 6, 2029.
The first sitting, scheduled for 12:05 a.m. on January 7, will focus on electing the Speaker and Deputy Speakers, as well as administering oaths to the Speaker and Members of Parliament.
Following the inaugural sitting, the House will take a short break and reconvene at the Black Star Square (Independence Avenue), where the Vice President-elect and President-elect will take their oaths.
