Ayine Applauds EOCO’s Record-Breaking Recovery

Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has praised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for what he described as a remarkable turnaround and outstanding performance, highlighting that the agency has retrieved GH₵337.4 million—far surpassing its 2025 target of GH₵200 million.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, December 18, Dr. Ayine credited EOCO’s achievement to strong institutional leadership, stressing that effective leadership remains central to the success of public agencies.

The Attorney General noted that the combined guidance of President John Mahama and EOCO’s management has fostered integrity within the institution, enabling it to carry out its statutory duties with greater efficiency.

“EOCO has exceeded its 2025 target which was set at 200 million. Recoveries currently stand at 337.4 million. This figure means that it has exceeded its 2025 recovery by over 133.4 million. This is the highest recovery in the history of the agency,” he stated.

Dr. Ayine further disclosed that EOCO’s investigations had led to the recovery of assets valued at USD 15 million from a fraudulent Malaysian company.

He explained that part of the recovered funds will be used to compensate victims of the offshore cryptocurrency scam that targeted unsuspecting Ghanaians, while the remainder will be paid into the national treasury.

“Through very complex, groundbreaking investigations conducted, EOCO has recovered USD15.191 million. Some of that money will go to pay victims that were defrauded but a greater part of the money will be retained and paid into the public kitty,” he added.
