Attorney-General Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine has disclosed that Ghana has formally submitted an extradition request to the United States for former Finance Minister Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta and his associate, Enes Dakun Akori, to stand trial in Ghana.
Dr. Ayine explained that on December 9, 2025, the Office of the Special Prosecutor provided additional documentation and addressed earlier observations, thereby finalizing the extradition request packages. The following day, December 10, his office transmitted the complete request to the Minister for Foreign Affairs for onward delivery to the U.S. Department of Justice.
“At this point, it is left to the American authorities, especially the judicial authorities, to make a determination on whether a sufficient basis exists for the two accused persons to be extradited to Ghana to stand trial,” he stated.
The Attorney-General noted that the charge sheet, already filed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, is a public document. It contains 78 charges against Ofori-Atta and his accomplices, including allegations of causing financial loss to the state and using public office for private benefit.
Dr. Ayine emphasized that while he could not comment further on the charges during the press conference, the government remains committed to accountability and has taken all legally required steps to ensure the accused face justice in Ghana.
“It is now left to the judicial authorities in the United States to assess the entire package that we have presented to find out whether there is sufficient basis for him to be extradited,” he concluded.
