Atta Akyea Raises Concerns Over Kennedy Agyapong’s Temperament

Former Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has questioned the suitability of former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, for the presidency, citing concerns about his temperament.

Speaking in an interview on UTV, Mr Atta Akyea said that while he holds no personal grievances against Mr Agyapong, he fears his volatile nature could pose risks even to senior government officials.

“I have no issues with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, not even a single one. However, leadership consists of many factors. I am concerned about the man’s temperament. I fear he could even assault a cabinet minister; he has a bad temperament. There is nothing he shows patience with, and he does not know how to handle matters behind closed doors,” he stated.

The former minister stressed that effective leadership requires resilience and composure under pressure.

“The temperament of a president should include shock absorbers, someone who can absorb pressure, not someone who always believes he has an issue with others,” he said.

Mr Atta Akyea acknowledged Mr Agyapong’s achievements as a businessman but argued that combining business acumen with political competence, intellectual capacity, and vision remains a challenge.

“I believe we can support him as a businessman, but when we consider competence, temperament, intellectual prowess and vision, the question remains: at his age, how do you tame him?” he remarked.

He also dismissed claims of internal election rigging within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that the process was transparent.

“There was no election conducted by the NPP that sought to rig the process in favour of Bawumia; no one had such a plan. Every candidate had his agents at the various polling centres,” he asserted.
