Asiedu Nketia Appeals for Unity in NDC After Tamale Central MP’s Death

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged members of the party, especially in the Tamale Central Constituency, to remain united as they prepare to select a successor for the late Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

His call comes in the wake of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) announcement that it will not field a candidate for the Tamale Central seat following the MP’s tragic death in a recent helicopter crash.

Speaking at a gathering of party supporters, Mr. Asiedu Nketia expressed appreciation to the NPP for what he described as a gesture of political maturity. He, however, emphasized that unity within the NDC was essential to honor the memory of the late MP and maintain the party’s strength in the constituency.

“We are grateful to our brothers and sisters in the NPP for this decision. It is a sign of respect, and we acknowledge it. But our work as a party continues. In this moment of grief, we must not allow division to creep in. Let us close our ranks, support one another, and work together towards our common goal,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia urged party members to approach the succession process with maturity, ensuring that whoever is chosen will carry forward the vision and dedication of the late Murtala Mohammed.

The NDC is expected to announce details of the selection process for the Tamale Central seat in the coming days.
