In a major step toward lasting peace, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has presented the Bawku Peace Mediation Report to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama at a high-level meeting at the Jubilee House in Accra.
The gathering brought together government officials, security agencies, religious leaders, traditional authorities, and other key stakeholders, reflecting the national importance of the peace process.
Presenting the report, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II appealed to all sides in the Bawku conflict to regard themselves as one family and to embrace peace, unity, and reconciliation in the interest of national development.
Receiving the report, President Mahama expressed appreciation to the Asantehene and his mediation team. He emphasized that the process is not about winners or losers, but about reconciling factions to achieve lasting peace. The President noted that Bawku has immense potential to become a vibrant city, a vision undermined by years of conflict.
Hon. Muntaka Mubarak reaffirmed Government’s firm commitment to ensuring peace and security across the country. He stressed that conflict remains a major obstacle to development and assured that the Ministry of the Interior will continue to play its part in safeguarding Bawku and supporting efforts to restore lasting peace and stability.
The presentation of the mediation report marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to resolve the Bawku conflict and strengthen national unity.
