Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has donated an amount of GH¢60,000 to the families of the eight persons who were shot dead in Zakoli in the Yendi Municipality in the Northern Region by unknown gunmen.
The Northern regional minister, Mr Shani Alhassan Shaibu made the pronouncement when the Vice Prseident and his entourage paid a courtesy call to after visiting Zakoli to commiserate with them.
Addressing the gathering, the Fulani Chief of Tamale, Alhaji Issah Hamidu Barry appealed to the security agencies and government to make sure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators are punished. Mr Shani Alhassan Shaibu also indicated that the Police has begun investigations.
He further urged the chiefs and members of the Fulani community to volunteer information that will give them leads on the culprits who masterminded the gruesome attacks.
Meanwhile the bodies of the deceased have been laid to rest at the Vittin Cemetery in the Tamale Metropolis, in accordance with Islamic customs.
The bodies, which had been at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary were retrieved on morning for the final Islamic funeral rites and sent to the cemetery for burial.
