Arise Ghana Protests at U.S. Embassy Over Ofori-Atta

Pressure group Arise Ghana on Tuesday staged a demonstration at the United States Embassy in Accra, calling for the return of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to face investigations into alleged financial impropriety.

Dressed in red and black, the protesters gathered at the embassy premises with placards bearing messages such as “Bring Ken Home” and “No Hiding Place for Corruption.”

The protest comes as the former minister remains outside the country while the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) continues investigations into transactions sanctioned during his tenure.

Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024 under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has been embroiled in several public controversies relating to alleged financial mismanagement and procurement issues.

In recent years, the OSP has announced probes into contracts and financial decisions made under his watch, including revenue assurance agreements, debt restructuring processes, and payments executed through sole-sourcing arrangements.

His legal team has previously indicated that he is prepared to cooperate with any legitimate investigative process, stressing that his stay abroad is due to health and security concerns.
