A Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties to Ayishatu Zakaria, the woman accused of burning seven-year-old Amina with a hot spoon allegedly as punishment for bed-wetting.
Zakaria, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was ordered to remain in police custody until she meets the bail conditions. The case has been adjourned to January 16, 2026, for further hearing.
Lawyers for the victim, Saratu and Clifford, told journalists after the court sitting that due process was followed in hearing the matter and setting the bail terms.
Sarki, the first person to report the incident to the police, recounted the events that led to the current proceedings, highlighting the community’s role in bringing the matter to light.
Mallam Abdul Razark, who has been actively involved in pursuing justice for Amina, expressed gratitude to individuals and organisations that have supported the child. “My only interest is to see justice served,” he said.
Supporters of the victim, including the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund, reiterated their call for justice and pledged to continue monitoring the case.
Meanwhile, members of various Zongo communities have voiced their commitment to following the proceedings closely to ensure that justice is done and that anyone found guilty is punished in accordance with the law.
