The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has moved to fully cover the cost of surgery for one of its sanitation workers, Madam Cynthia Yeboah, who sustained injuries in an accident last month in the line of duty.
The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who led a delegation from the Assembly to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Monday, October 5, 2026, presented GH¢38,656 to cover the full cost of Ms Yeboah’s surgery and assured her of the Assembly’s continued support throughout her treatment and recovery.
Ms Yeboah, who works as a sanitation worker with the Assembly, was involved in the accident on September 16, 2026, and was subsequently admitted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Speaking during the visit, Mayor Allotey said the Assembly considered the welfare of its employees a priority and would not abandon workers when they faced difficult circumstances.
He noted that the current management was determined to build an institution that stood by its workers when they were in need.
“The old AMA isn’t the new AMA. The new AMA pays for and takes care of its people,” the Mayor said.
He said the leadership of the Assembly was happy to support at a critical moment and was hopeful that the surgery would be successful to enable her to regain her health and return to work.
Mayor Allotey assured that management would return to check on her condition after the surgery and wished her a speedy recovery.
The intervention forms part of efforts by the Assembly to strengthen staff welfare and demonstrate greater institutional responsibility towards employees, including those who encounter emergencies in the course of their service.
Ms. Yeboah and her family expressed appreciation to the Mayor and the management for the intervention and support towards her medical treatment.
