Ablakwa Announces Passport Centres for All Regions

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that Ghana’s six newly created regions will, for the first time, have their own Passport Application Centres. He made the announcement in a Facebook post on Sunday, December 7, exactly one year after Ghanaians voted to “reset Ghana.”

According to the Minister, the centres are ready for commissioning this December. This milestone means that every region in the country will now have a facility to process passport applications, eliminating the need for citizens to travel long distances to other regions for biometric capture.

Hon. Ablakwa noted that the initiative fulfills his promise to establish seven new centres in regions that previously lacked them. He further revealed that the passport application fee has been reduced by 30 percent — from GHS500 to GHS350 — to ease the financial burden on applicants.

“This is the first time in Ghana’s history that all regions will have their own Passport Application Centres. No need to travel hours to another Region to have your biometrics captured,” the Minister stated.

He added that the development is timely, as many Ghanaians are preparing to travel abroad to support the Black Stars in upcoming matches in the United States and Canada.

The commissioning of the centres is expected to improve access to passport services nationwide and reflects government’s commitment to decentralisation and citizen-friendly reforms.
