The Foreign Ministry of Ghana has formally launched the Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Diaspora Awards, a new annual initiative celebrating the contributions of Ghanaians abroad and honouring the legacy of the country’s founding father.
The ceremony, held last night in Accra, was marked by a symbolic moment as Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and former Member of Parliament, joined officials to inaugurate the awards.
“It was the honour of a lifetime to do this with the distinguished Samia Nkrumah,” said one participant, describing the event as a tribute to the man hailed as the African of the Millennium.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, Abena Busia, daughter of former Prime Minister Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, lent her support to Samia Nkrumah and endorsed the awards, underscoring a spirit of unity and national pride.
The Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Diaspora Awards will be held annually to recognize excellence, leadership, and service among members of the Ghanaian diaspora, while reinforcing the values of Pan-Africanism and national development.
