Defence Committee Reviews 2026 Budget Estimates

The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior has commenced consideration of the 2026 budget estimates and policy objectives presented by the Ministry of Defence and its agencies.

Acting Minister of Defence, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed that the Ministry’s allocation for 2026 has seen a substantial increase compared to previous years. He stressed the urgent need for the Armed Forces to acquire a functional helicopter, underscoring the importance of approving the estimates to strengthen operational capacity.

Committee Chairman, Hon. James Agalga, assured the Ministry of the Committee’s unwavering support, noting that the defence sector must be given the utmost priority and treated accordingly.

The Committee’s report has since been laid before Parliament for distribution and debate ahead of the formal approval of the estimates.
