Minority Slams Justice Brew Plange Over Kpandai Election Ruling

The Minority in Parliament has condemned Tamale High Court Judge Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, accusing him of exhibiting “judicial irresponsibility” in his handling of the Kpandai election petition.

In a ruling delivered on Monday, November 24, 2025, Justice Brew Plange annulled the 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency, citing widespread irregularities and ordering a fresh poll within 30 days.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, November 26, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said the caucus would resist what they describe as an “animal farm judgment” aimed at removing the sitting MP, Matthew Nyindam, before all legal avenues are exhausted.

He described the ruling as excessive and troubling, criticising the judge for cancelling an entire constituency’s election without first issuing a full, reasoned written judgment. Afenyo-Markin said such conduct amounted to “judicial irresponsibility of the highest order.”
