8-Year-Old Girl Dies in Dansoman Market Fire

A devastating fire swept through the Dansoman Market in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, claiming the life of an 8-year-old girl who was trapped in one of the affected sections.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze was reported at 00:02 hrs, with the first crew from the Dansoman Fire Station arriving just two minutes later. Firefighters met the flames at an advanced stage, spreading rapidly across multiple wooden structures.

To contain the inferno, eight fire engines from Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa, and Accra City were deployed, supported by two private water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

The fire was confined by 01:51 hrs, brought under control at 03:03 hrs, and fully extinguished by 05:21 hrs after thorough overhauling to eliminate hidden hotspots.

Tragically, the young girl could not be rescued, and her charred remains have been handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation.

Several shops and wooden structures were destroyed, but swift firefighting efforts prevented the flames from spreading to nearby properties. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and the GNFS is urging the public to remain vigilant in market areas to help prevent similar incidents.
