Police Launch Probe into Fatal Shooting of Kusasi Chief in Asawase

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated a formal inquiry into a deadly shooting that took place on the evening of Monday, 22nd July 2025, at Asawase F-Line, located in Kumasi, the regional capital.

In a statement released by the Police, initial investigations suggest that a man in his mid-years was fatally shot by two unknown gunmen.

Eyewitness accounts and police reports indicate that the assailants, each riding a separate motorcycle, approached the victim at close proximity and discharged their weapons before escaping the scene.

The injured man was first taken to the Manhyia District Hospital for urgent medical attention, but was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was unfortunately confirmed dead.

His remains have been moved to the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for a postmortem examination.

Reacting to the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, accompanied by the Regional Crime Officer, ACP Mr Ebenezer Boyor, and a team of investigators, visited the crime scene to evaluate the circumstances.

During their assessment, two spent cartridges—believed to have been discharged from an AK-47 rifle—were retrieved and catalogued as part of the evidence.

The Police Command has reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend those responsible for what they have termed a “heinous crime.”

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the Police by providing any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation,” the statement emphasized.

Individuals with useful information are advised to report to the nearest police station or call the emergency hotlines: 191, 18555, or 112.
