GES Cancels Mid-Term Break to Recover Lost Contact Hours

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cancelled the two-day mid-term break scheduled for basic schools across the country as part of measures to recover instructional hours lost during the recent industrial action by teachers.

In a statement issued by the GES Headquarters, management announced that the break, originally slated for November 5 and 6, 2026, would no longer take place.

The decision means that all basic schools are expected to remain open and continue normal academic activities on Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026.

According to the Service, the move forms part of efforts to make up for teaching and learning time lost during the strike period and ensure that pupils receive the required instructional hours for the academic term.

“Therefore, all basic schools are expected to open and conduct normal academic activities on Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026,” the statement noted.

GES urged teachers, students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders in the education sector to take note of the revised arrangement and cooperate with authorities to ensure its successful implementation.

The Service also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued support and commitment to the delivery of quality education.

The announcement is expected to affect both public basic schools and other institutions operating under the academic calendar approved by the Ghana Education Service.
