The Ministry of Education has appealed to striking staff of the Savannah College of Education to exercise restraint and suspend their industrial action while efforts are underway to address concerns relating to their migration onto the public sector salary structure.
In a statement issued on November 1, 2026, the ministry acknowledged the concerns raised by staff of the institution and assured them that the matter was receiving attention from the relevant authorities.
“The Ministry of Education has taken note of concerns raised by some staff of the Savannah College of Education regarding their migration onto the public sector salary structure,” the statement said.
The ministry indicated that discussions and interventions were ongoing to resolve the issue and urged the affected tutors to return to work to ensure academic activities at the college are not disrupted.
“We assure the affected staff that their concerns are being addressed with the relevant agencies; therefore, we appeal to the striking tutors to exercise restraint and call off the strike while efforts to resolve their concerns continue,” the ministry stated.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the impact of the strike on teaching and learning at the institution.
The Ministry of Education further reiterated its commitment to supporting the growth and development of the Savannah College of Education and pledged continued engagement with all stakeholders to find a lasting solution.
“The Ministry remains committed to working with all stakeholders to strengthen and support the growth of the Savannah College of Education as a developing institution,” the statement added.
