Ghana, China Deepen Ties in Road Infrastructure Development

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and China while pursuing greater collaboration in the development of the country’s road infrastructure.

He made the remarks when a joint delegation from the Jiangxi Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) and China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company Ltd. (CJIC) paid a courtesy call on him to discuss existing relations and explore new opportunities for partnership with the Ministry.

Mr. Agbodza highlighted the importance of the longstanding relationship between Ghana and China, noting the significant role Chinese companies continue to play in the country’s infrastructure drive.

According to him, the government remains committed to sustaining the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the road sector.

“President Mahama has arguably made the largest scale of infrastructure investment within the road sector under the Big Push Programme and Chinese companies are participating significantly. The relationship between Ghana and China is very important to us and we promise to do what we can to sustain it,” he stated.

The Minister stressed that collaboration with international institutions and development partners remains critical in mobilising investment, technical expertise and other resources needed to advance Ghana’s road infrastructure agenda.

He noted that such partnerships are essential for enhancing connectivity, supporting economic growth and improving transportation networks across the country.

The visiting delegation was led by Mr. Xiao Yun, Director-General of Jiangxi Provincial SASAC, and Mr. Xu Zhenghua, Vice President of CJIC.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Roads and Highways to strengthen international partnerships and attract investment aimed at accelerating road infrastructure development and supporting Ghana’s broader economic transformation objectives.
