President Commends IGP, Police Service as New 85-Bed Ward Complex Opens at Police Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Ghana Police Service for improvements in safety, security and crime investigations across the country.

The President made the remarks on Tuesday during the commissioning of a new 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra, a facility aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery for police personnel, their families and the general public.

Speaking at the event, President Mahama said the expanded medical facility formed part of efforts to improve the welfare of police officers, who regularly face physical and psychological challenges in the line of duty.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that officers injured during operations receive timely and quality healthcare services, noting that the new ward complex would contribute significantly to that objective.

The President also urged management and staff of the Police Hospital to uphold high standards of hygiene, patient safety and professional care while ensuring proper maintenance of the new facility and its equipment.

As part of government support for the hospital, President Mahama announced the donation of two new ambulances to strengthen emergency response and patient care services. He further assured the Ghana Police Service of the provision of additional armoured vehicles and the expansion of facilities at the hospital to improve healthcare delivery.

For his part, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno described the commissioning of the ward complex as a major milestone in the enhancement of healthcare services for police personnel, their families and the wider public.

According to him, the facility’s increased capacity would help reduce the transfer of patients to other health institutions while improving access to specialised medical care.

The IGP reiterated the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to maintaining the facility and ensuring that quality healthcare services are delivered to all patients who seek treatment at the hospital.

The newly commissioned 85-bed ward complex is expected to boost the hospital’s capacity and strengthen healthcare support for personnel of the Ghana Police Service and the public.
