Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the newly elected national executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and called on members to unite behind the party’s quest to return to power in the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued following the NPP’s 2026 National Annual Delegates Conference in Kumasi, the former President praised the outgoing National Executives Committee, led by former Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, for their service and contribution to the party.
He also commended the National Officers Elections Committee, chaired by Frederick Opare Ansah, as well as party delegates, for the successful organisation and conduct of the conference.
According to Mr Akufo-Addo, the event once again highlighted the strength of the NPP’s internal democratic traditions.
“The Conference has, once again, demonstrated the vibrancy of the New Patriotic Party’s internal democratic processes,” he stated.
The former President further extended his congratulations to the newly elected national executive officers led by John Boadu, describing him as a dedicated party worker and expressing confidence in the team’s ability to deliver on its mandate.
Mr Akufo-Addo said the end of the conference should signal the beginning of a renewed effort towards achieving the party’s collective aspirations under the theme, “One Party, with One Purpose, United for Victory.”
He urged members to put aside differences and work together to secure victory in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to him, the party’s objective is to form a new NPP government under the leadership of its presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to promote the rule of law and improve the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.
“The time has come for all hands on deck so that the Party can emerge victorious from the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections,” he said.
The former President concluded by invoking divine blessings on the NPP and the nation, expressing hope for Ghana’s continued progress, strength and prosperity.
The NPP’s National Annual Delegates Conference, held in Kumasi, brought together delegates from across the country to elect new national officers and chart the party’s course ahead of the next electoral cycle.
