The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening emergency preparedness and response capabilities through renewed collaboration with the North Dakota National Guard and the United States Embassy in Accra.
The commitment was highlighted during a visit by a delegation from the North Dakota National Guard and the U.S. Embassy to NADMO headquarters in Accra for discussions on enhancing cooperation in disaster preparedness, emergency response and capacity building.
The delegation was led by Brigadier General Mitchell Johnson, Adjutant General of the North Dakota National Guard and Director of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.
The team held talks with the Director-General of NADMO, Major Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), during which both sides reviewed a longstanding partnership that dates back to 2004 and expressed a shared desire to deepen engagement.
Discussions focused on future collaborative initiatives aimed at improving disaster management capabilities in Ghana.
The North Dakota delegation outlined plans for a major emergency management exercise to be hosted in Ghana in 2027, in addition to a series of smaller exercises and technical exchange programmes designed to strengthen professional expertise and operational readiness.
The delegation also provided an update on ongoing efforts to support NADMO with watercraft and personal protective equipment to enhance its emergency response operations.
Major Dr. Kuyon welcomed the continued cooperation and underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in building resilient disaster response systems.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong ties between NADMO and the North Dakota National Guard, with both parties expressing optimism about future collaborations.
NADMO said it looked forward to building on the longstanding partnership to further enhance Ghana’s capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and emergencies.
