The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, with over half a million students recorded nationwide.
A total of 512,862 candidates — comprising 225,270 males and 287,592 females from 1,022 schools — sat for the examination, representing an 11.07 percent increase over the 2025 entry figure. WAEC noted that 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98 percent, were absent. Results have been uploaded online, and heads of schools have been provided with login details to access them.
The Council cautioned candidates and stakeholders against fraudsters promising to upgrade results for a fee, stressing that WAEC’s verification system and QR code remain the only authentic means of confirming results.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Examinations Committee has sanctioned thousands of candidates for malpractice. Following investigations, the Committee announced the cancellation of subject results for 7,434 candidates who brought foreign materials into examination halls, and the entire results of 861 candidates caught with mobile phones. Additionally, subject results of 957 candidates and entire results of 270 candidates have been withheld for suspected offences.
Results from 169 schools have also been withheld for alleged collusion, pending further investigation. WAEC indicated that these withheld results may be released or cancelled by October 30, 2026, depending on the outcome.
Performance statistics across the four core subjects showed mixed trends. In English Language, 62.40 percent of candidates obtained grades A1–C6, continuing a four‑year decline from 73.11 percent in 2023. Mathematics (Core) recorded 60.75 percent passes, marking recovery from 48.73 percent in 2025. Integrated Science saw 62.08 percent of candidates achieving credit passes, while Social Studies recorded the highest performance, with 78.04 percent of candidates scoring between A1 and C6.
WAEC expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners for their support in the conduct of the examination and release of results.
