The Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament has officially received the 2026 Democracy Cup trophy, launching the countdown to the third edition of Ghana’s prestigious football contest between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The ceremonial handover, held in Accra, signaled the Speaker’s continued commitment to the tournament he conceived and championed as a symbol of unity through sport. This year’s clash is scheduled for Friday, August 28, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
With the first two editions shared equally — Kotoko lifting the inaugural cup in 2024 and Hearts responding with victory in 2025 — the 2026 encounter promises to be decisive, granting the winner a permanent lead in the head‑to‑head record of the celebrated competition.
In his remarks, the Speaker expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association and the leadership of both clubs for sustaining the vision behind the Democracy Cup. He urged players, officials, and fans to embrace the fixture as more than a rivalry, describing it as a national celebration of democratic maturity.
