The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of six suspects linked to a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating in Wa West District and Wa Municipality. The intelligence‑led operation, coordinated by the Upper West Regional Command, follows a spate of violent robberies in which victims were attacked and forced to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) PINs.
The suspects arrested include Amadu Moro (35), Adama Yussif (40), Iddrissu Adama (35), Korika Issaka (20), and Zakaria Brigi (21). A sixth suspect, Nasiru Abdul Rahman (52), sustained injuries during the operation and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Investigations have linked the group to multiple robberies across the region, including incidents at Kpenateng Junction (August 1), Kulikpara‑Dapoha (June 19), Kpenateng Community (June 15), Piisi‑Dapoha (March 27), and another on May 23. Police reports indicate that the syndicate stole GH₵22,070 in cash and GH₵3,274 through MoMo accounts. Seven mobile phones were retrieved from the suspects for forensic examination.
Two other suspects remain at large: Haruna, 30, identified as the gang’s armourer, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, son of the deceased suspect. The Regional Command has intensified efforts to locate and arrest them.
DCOP Francis Yiribaare, Upper West Regional Police Commander, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements, and activities. He appealed for public cooperation to provide credible information that could assist in tracking the fugitives and preventing further criminal activity.
