The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has inspected the Dambai military base project to ascertain progress on the facility, which is expected to serve as a strategic response to growing security challenges in parts of the Oti Region.
The inspection, conducted on Friday, 7 August 2026, forms part of efforts by the Military High Command to keep track of the pace of work at the site.
During the visit, the CDS urged the contractor handling the project, FT Global Investment Limited, to expedite work to ensure its timely completion, noting the base’s importance to security in areas such as Nkwanta South.
Lt Gen Agyapong explained that the Dambai Military Base would be a tri-service installation with an airstrip, a development he said would strengthen the presence of the Ghana Armed Forces in the region.
He added that the facility would improve the military’s ability to respond rapidly to security threats, protect lives and property, and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the area.
The CDS assured the contractor of the continuous support and cooperation of the Military High Command to facilitate the completion of the project, while stressing the need for sustained progress at the site.
When completed, the new barracks will be named Fort Anyidoho, in honour of Major General Henry Kwami Anyidoho (rtd), a former Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR).
