The Ghana Chamber of Mines (GCM) has donated relief items valued at about GH₵2 million to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support victims of the recent floods across the country.
The donation included food items, baby food, blankets, mattresses, sanitation products, and protective equipment such as wellington boots and gloves to aid NADMO’s emergency response operations.
Presenting the items, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, said the gesture formed part of the Chamber’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment and demonstrated solidarity with affected communities.
“Although this donation cannot replace the lives and property lost, it is intended to provide relief and restore hope to victims as they rebuild their lives,” Dr. Ashigbey stated.
He further urged national commitment to disaster prevention, stressing that human activities such as illegal mining, construction on waterways, and blocked drains had worsened the impact of the floods.
“Nature delivered the rain; human beings multiplied the disaster. If we truly want to honour those who lost their lives, we must collectively declare: Never Again,” he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of NADMO, Hon. Ebenezer Terlabi, Deputy Minister for the Interior, expressed gratitude to the Chamber and encouraged other corporate organisations, faith‑based institutions, development partners, and philanthropists to support the national relief effort.
NADMO’s Director‑General, Dr. Joseph Kuyon, and senior management staff were present at the ceremony.
The Chamber’s intervention adds to ongoing relief efforts aimed at assisting thousands of displaced families and underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in responding to national emergencies.
