The Ministry of the Interior has announced the immediate suspension of the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited, following alleged breaches of regulations governing Private Security Organisations (PSOs).
In a press release dated June 22, 2026, the Ministry cited the use of unprescribed uniforms, as well as the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by company personnel during private security operations at Kwabenya in Accra on June 21, 2026.
The statement outlined several directives:
- Cease operations: Kantanka Security Services Limited is to halt all private security activities with immediate effect.
- Police cooperation: The company must cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service in ongoing investigations.
- Public safety assurance: The Ministry assured the public that the suspension is an administrative measure pending investigations, aimed at safeguarding public safety.
The Ministry further reminded all PSOs of the uniform compliance directive issued by the Ghana Police Service on February 5, 2026, stressing that strict adherence is mandatory.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and warned that any PSO found in breach of the law would face decisive action.
This development underscores the government’s resolve to strengthen oversight of private security operations and maintain public confidence in Ghana’s security sector.
