E/R: Man, 45, shot dead

At Akyem-Twapease in the Eastern Region, a 45-year-old man was shot dead by a colleague illegal miner.

When another miner, the deceased and his seven other coworkers were following, wrestled with one of them over his pump-action gun, Eric Twumasi was allegedly shot in the head accidentally.

The argument was reportedly sparked by a dispute between two illegal mining companies over a gold concession in the area.

” There was a misunderstanding between these two groups, so one of the groups chased a rival miner into his house, and when they got there, he struggled with them by trying to disarm one of the armed men”.

“The intense struggle led to the gun firing into the head of one of the armed men”.

According to the police, on Saturday about 1:15 p.m., a 63-year-old miner and resident of Tweapease, Kingsley Gyapong, claimed to police that around 10 am, he noticed a gang of gun-wielding males firing pump action weapons and locally manufactured handguns indiscriminately.

Ecolac, Simon, Kofi Emma, Abincolo, Ashaiman, and Kwasi Owusu were among the people he recognized.

According to the police, they arrived at the crime scene to find Twumasi’s body in a pool of blood with his brain gushing out.

They found a pump-action gun with one used shell of 4 bore AAA Cartridge in the compound.

The body was taken to the morgue at the Kade Government Hospital.
