Youth Employment Agency Denies Allegations of Ten-Month Salary Arrears

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has refuted media reports suggesting that about 300 staff of the agency have not been paid their salaries for ten months.

In a statement signed by Sudiqque Musah, Director of Corporate Affairs, the Agency clarified that such reports are “factually inaccurate,” noting that the current Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Malik Basintale, assumed office in February 2025 only eight months ago.

According to the statement, all staff members captured on the official payroll have been paid consistently up to September 2025, and no verified employee has been excluded. The Agency explained that it had undertaken a comprehensive staff audit earlier this year to ensure only legitimate employees remain on the payroll, safeguarding public funds in the process.

The YEA further noted that some employees whose contracts had expired before the new CEO took office were directed to reapply through their respective directors, and those who renewed their contracts have since been reinstated.

While acknowledging the hardships faced by some individuals, including reports of alleged suicide attempts linked to unemployment, the Agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting staff welfare and ensuring sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

“The Youth Employment Agency remains committed to protecting the interests of its staff, ensuring accountability, and delivering on its mandate to create sustainable employment for Ghanaian youth,” the statement concluded.
