Vice President Opoku-Agyemang Engages Ghanaian Community in Iowa

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Wednesday met with members of the Ghanaian community in Iowa, USA, as part of her participation in the Norman Borlaug International Dialogue, organised by the World Food Prize Foundation.

Addressing a gathering largely made up of young Ghanaians and students, the Vice President underscored the Mahama administration’s commitment to inclusive development aimed at improving the living standards of all citizens. She stressed that government policies are designed to ensure that disadvantaged groups are not left behind.

“We will empower those who don’t have the power, through whatever means,” Professor Opoku-Agyemang affirmed, highlighting the administration’s focus on equity and opportunity.

She further outlined government’s priorities in job creation, particularly for the country’s youth, noting that Ghana’s talented and innovative young people must be supported to realise their aspirations. According to her, agribusiness development and the strengthening of small and medium-scale enterprises remain central to the administration’s economic agenda.

In a significant announcement, the Vice President revealed that government will soon roll out the Women’s Development Bank, an initiative designed to provide financial support and resources to female entrepreneurs across the country.

The engagement in Iowa formed part of her broader participation in the Norman Borlaug Dialogue, a global platform that brings together leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss solutions for food security and agricultural transformation.
