Speaker Bagbin Urges Ga Royals to Unite for Accra’s Development

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on members of the Ga royal families to close ranks and use tradition and chieftaincy as tools for development.

According to the Speaker, the progress of Ghana is tied to the growth of its capital, Accra, and without a well-developed Greater Accra Region, the nation’s overall development will remain incomplete.

“Just as the colonial masters of Ghana have used their royal kingdoms to advance their countries, the Ga traditional families must also take the lead in transforming Accra,” he stated.

Mr. Bagbin made the call in his office in Parliament when a delegation from the family of the late Madam Agnes Yacoba Conduah, mother of Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, paid a courtesy call to officially inform him of her passing.

The leader of the delegation, Jacob Herbert Nii Okanta Vanderpuije, formally invited the Speaker to the funeral, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Also present was the former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Hon. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuije, who expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his warm reception and his demonstrated commitment to the development of Greater Accra.

The Speaker assured the delegation of his support and reiterated his belief that unity among the Ga royals and traditional leaders would serve as a catalyst for the capital’s transformation.
