Local Government Committee Reviews 2024 Audit Reports of MMDAs in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions

The Committee on Local Government and Rural Development yesterday continued its series of public hearings to examine the 2024 audit findings on the financial statements of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the middle belt, focusing on the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions.

Opening the session, the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Maame Pokuah Sawyer, underscored the importance of accountability in the management of public resources. She explained that the Committee’s mandate is to serve as a checkpoint to ensure that funds allocated to the various assemblies are used for their intended purposes.

“Our duty is to safeguard the public purse by ensuring that every cedi allocated to the assemblies is properly accounted for and directed towards development,” Hon. Sawyer stated.

Representatives from the three regions appeared before the Committee to respond to queries and provide clarifications on the audit findings. The hearings form part of Parliament’s broader oversight role in promoting transparency and good governance at the local level.

Also present at the sitting were the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, and the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardner, who lent their support to the process.

The Committee is expected to continue its hearings with other regions in the coming days, after which it will compile recommendations to guide future financial management practices within the MMDAs.
