The Ghana Police Service has rescued a young woman who appeared in a viral video with a severe injury to her left eye, visibly distressed and pleading for help from pedestrians and motorists. The operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
Upon receipt of the video, the specialized unit launched a swift intelligence-led operation that traced the victim and suspect to Okushibri near Apollonia. Officers successfully located both individuals and secured the victim’s safety.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Bright Kpodo, also known as Horror, is the victim’s partner. Police say he subjected her to physical abuse, resulting in the injury seen in the widely circulated footage.
Kpodo is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to provide medical and psychological support for the victim.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to tackling domestic violence and urged the public to report such incidents promptly for investigation and prosecution.
“We encourage all citizens to speak up against abuse. Timely reporting saves lives,” the Service emphasized in its statement.
