Akufo-Addo Calls for Decent Campaign Ahead of NPP Primaries

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to all New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopefuls to focus on issue-driven campaigns and uphold mutual respect as the party gears up for its forthcoming presidential primaries.

At a breakfast meeting held at his Nima residence in Accra on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, the former President underscored the need for a clean and dignified contest.

The gathering brought together the five aspirants seeking the party’s presidential slot, alongside senior party officials, as part of efforts to foster unity and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the January 31, 2026, primaries.

Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the aspirants for their dedication to the NPP’s progress, commending their service to both party and country. He urged them to campaign on policies and ideas rather than resorting to personal attacks, stressing that his foremost concern was safeguarding party unity and the credibility of the electoral process.

In turn, the aspirants assured him that their campaigns and supporters would act responsibly, avoiding divisive rhetoric. They further pledged to rally behind whoever emerges as flagbearer, in order to maintain solidarity within the party.

The aspirants in attendance included Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

Concluding the meeting, Akufo-Addo urged party leadership to guarantee a transparent and credible primary process that would unify all factions after the contest. The statement was released by his spokesperson, Fatimatu Abubakar.
